Peter Kuznick, Professor of History and Director of the Nuclear Studies Institute at American University, has explained in recent interviews that the “Appeal to Pope Leo to Organize a Global Leaders Summit to Address the Questions of Peace and Nuclear Disarmament” which he co-initiated with Nuclear Age Peace Foundation President Ivana Hughes and others, was issued with two goals: to appeal to Pope Leo XIV “to call for an emergency international summit to guide the world away from the current path of war and potential nuclear disaster,” but also to inform people around the world of just how dire the danger of nuclear conflict has become, so that they join the mobilization to change the course of history.
The number of organizations and institutions concerned with peace and justice which are bringing the appeal to the attention of their readers, for them to read it and sign in support, has grown. EIR News earlier reported on six sites known to have published the appeal as of August 25. Since then, another five institutional sites are known to have joined in promoting it.
Today, it was published by Antiwar.com, heading its “Antiwar.Blog” column on its front page. This site, founded in 1995 by Libertarians, has since gained a large, regular readership that extends far beyond Libertarians per se.
