The results of Russia’s 3-day election process was a massive victory for the ruling United Russia party, linked to President Vladimir Putin. With 90.43% of the vote counted, UR led with 57.86% of the vote, improving by 8 points over its 2021 showing of 49.82%. The next four leading parties garnered between 5 and 14% apiece.

The Central Election Commission (CEC) reported today that UR stands to get 355 seats in the 450-seat State Duma. Its previous record, in 2016, was 343 seats. The Communist Party won 40, the nationalist Liberal Democratic Party 25, New People 20 and A Just Russia 4. This year’s voting included four former Ukrainian oblasts that voted to join the Russian Federation in 2022—Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporozhe and Kherson. Official turnout was around 60%, the highest for a legislative contest since 2003.
