Did the warmongers in the Trump administration—and the British Empire elites behind them—really expect that the world would fall into line and go along with the beastman-like demand that Iran be made a pariah state?
Though it’s hard to tell what is (or perhaps isn’t) going on in the minds of those in the White House, it should be clear as day for anyone who saw the just-concluded summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Bishkek, that the might-makes-right tactics of empire no longer control the world.
“The SCO is today, in fact, the largest regional association… in the world as a whole,” Russian President Putin observed to the gathering of heads of state in Bishkek. “Its member countries are home to almost half the planet’s population and account for more than a third of the global gross domestic product. The SCO region is home to powerful intellectual and technological potential, as well as a significant portion of the world’s natural resources. Key transcontinental, transport, and logistics routes run through it.”
Chinese President Xi Jinping, in his speeches to the gathering, elaborated the underlying theme of the entire summit: The trend toward a multipolar world is irreversible, he told the conference, and he called on the SCO to work together to advance a more just and equitable global governance system.
Far from being an outcast from the Global Majority, Iranian President Pezeshkian was in the center of the dialogue in Bishkek, not only holding one-one-one meetings with his counterparts but also identifying in his address to the Council of Heads of State the indispensable principle at the foundation of the new paradigm: security and development are inseparable.
Making clear on no uncertain terms the SCO’s firm solidarity with Iran, the main document of the summit, the Bishkek Declaration, condemned the illegal US and Israeli military strikes and the “unilateral coercive measures that conflict with the UN Charter and International Law.”
Shortly after the conclusion of the summit, the US unleashed a new wave of air and missile strikes against targets in southern Iran. “If the failed Nation of Iran retaliates for this very justified attack,” Trump threatened on Truth Social, “they will be hit again at a much harder and higher level, but it will not be the biggest attack of them all, that is waiting in the wings and, when it is over, there will be very little left of the Islamic Republic of Iran!”
And poor Scott Bessant—whose “Operation Economic Outcast” sanctions have failed almost as hard as his desperate attempts to stabilize the dollar system, now careening toward a total meltdown. On Tuesday night, Treasury rates spiked, despite Bessant’s ongoing buyback scheme, as his erstwhile hedge fund pals continue to drive rates up to sustain the unsustainable $2.4 quadrillion speculative bubble that is the trans-Atlantic financial system.
So, who is really the pariah?
If you answered the US, you’ve missed the larger picture; it is the unipolar system of empire, the disease of geopolitics which has infected the “collective West” and which is now being cast out by the majority of humanity. However, the danger hanging over all our heads is the factor of insanity coming from a dying empire—one which possesses nuclear weapons and may just decide to use them, rather than lose their power over world affairs.
So, what is to be done? In a seminar on Tuesday, “The Freefall of the German Economy Must Be Stopped!” Schiller Institute founder Helga Zepp-LaRouche stressed that while humanity faces an unprecedented crisis, the situation is not hopeless—there is a way out, but there must be a public debate to break people out of their depression, their complacency.
To that end, the Schiller Institute is mobilizing support behind the recent initiative, “Appeal to Pope Leo XIV To Organize a Global Leaders Summit To Address the Questions of Peace and Nuclear Disarmament,” which calls on the Pope to “to call for an emergency international summit to guide the world away from the current path of war and potential nuclear disaster and to peacefully resolve the greatest crises facing humanity today.” Sign the call and get others—your government representatives included—to read, sign, and mobilize.
And this Friday, September 4, EIR and the International Peace Coalition are holding a roundtable discussion, “An Alternative to War and Looting in the Americas.” Therein lies the solution: the US, Europe, and all nations of the “collective West” could shake off the chains of the empire system and work with the rest of humanity to form a new paradigm—one dedicated to the development and progress of all humankind. That is the way out of nuclear war. As we heard from Iranian President Pezeshkian at the SCO meeting, development and security are inseparable.
