Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare is investigating what he believes to be the intentional running-over with an SUV of Miguel Parra-Hernandez by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent on October 10 in Houston, Texas, according to the Texas Tribune. A video on KTRK-TV from an area surveillance camera shows the ICE vehicle swerve in order to hit Parra-Hernandez as he attempts to run away. A spokesperson for ICE told reporters that the federal agents were not targeting Parra-Hernandez, but rather Jose Mendoza-Cervantes, a Mexican immigrant with a deportation order, who they believed was a passenger in Parra-Hernandez’s work truck. Family members told reporters that Parra-Hernandez did not know the targeted individual, and that the two men certainly did not work together.

Teare told reporters that the charge under consideration against the federal agents is “aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.” Parra-Hernandez, 48, remains hospitalized with two broken legs, a shattered hip, and a shattered ankle. He was born in Puebla, Mexico and has lived in Houston for over 30 years with no criminal record.
