Vice President J.D. Vance, speaking at a White House press conference on Oct. 8, insulted 1.4 billion Indians while bragging about cracking down on tech companies that have been replacing Americans with lower-paid foreigners. “Microsoft, you’re a great American company, but you’ve got to hire great American workers,” Vance said. “You cannot lay off American workers and then replace them with foreign indentured servants.”

Many high-tech workers in the U.S. are highly trained Indians. The Indian Foreign Ministry issued a complaint on Friday: “Resorting to terminology that carries painful historical and colonial legacy connotations is deeply offensive.”
