Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei criticized Emanuel Macron yesterday over a blatant double standard on nuclear deterrence, questioning why the same logic that France views as guaranteeing its security and freedom suddenly turns into a “threat” when it comes to Iran. Macron, he noted in a post on X, had said after the nuclear missile test launch earlier this week, that “To be free, one must be feared. And to be feared, one must be powerful.”

“Yet, he himself asserts, regarding Iran, which has never sought to acquire nuclear weapons: ‘Iran must never possess nuclear weapons. Neither today, nor in five years, nor in ten years. Never,’” Baqaei said, reported IRNA.
