According to various news reports, Elon Musk has cut Ukraine’s use of Starshield, the military version of Starlink. As of Wednesday night, Ukraine cannot use it on any vehicle traveling above 161 kph (100 mph). The change reportedly came without warning, disrupting Ukrainian military operations including drone strikes aimed deep into Russia. The Ukrainian military uses Starshield in part to guide its ever-growing fleets of drones, including interceptors used to down Russian drones, reported The New York Times. The restrictions, Ukrainian officials complained, tied Ukraine’s hands while leaving Russia free to wage war.
The restriction came even as the Kiev regime said it agreed not to bomb Russian oil refineries despite Russia continuing to strike Ukrainian power plants.
The Starshield limitations, if they continue, could hobble Ukraine’s military operations, the Times reported further. Starshield terminals are used for nearly everything the Ukrainian Army deploys on the battlefield: the cars that carry troops and matériel, the drones that ferry food and water to soldiers at the front, and the attack drones that fly long distances to hit Russian positions.
