A group of the largest U.S. unions including the IBT (truckers), UAW (auto workers), and Steelworkers have written a letter to Members of Congress backing a Democratic Senate push for legislation to make arms producing companies allocate more to capital investment and less to buybacks and related promotions of their own stock. According to the Washington Sun account Oct. 10, they appear to make no protest of the gargantuan size of the defense budget, nor the cuts to medical insurance, food stamps, and other services–not to speak of infrastructure spending and jobs.
Trump is jawboning the defense contractors to cut down on pumping their own stock; the unions are effectively backing Trump on this, claiming his jawboning is already working, and that this is a matter of “jobs and wages for American workers.”
