OpenAI, the owner of ChatGPT, has hired former U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll to be a senior counselor for national security modernization, a newly created role at the company. Driscoll will focus on “how advanced AI can strengthen national and cyber security,” OpenAI said in a press release, adding that he will have a particular focus on helping U.S. allies adopt advanced AI responsibly.

Driscoll will help “advance practical modernization initiatives that support the buildout of democratic AI,” the release said. “He will also help internal OpenAI teams understand the operational needs of global national security institutions,” and “to unlock practical uses of AI to improve national security.”
