Russian Wheat Exports to Africa Surged During 2025

During the fifth All-Russian Grain Forum, held in Sochi from May 20 to 23, 2026, the head of the agency, Ilya Ilushin, noted that Russia “exported nearly 52 million tons of grain and legumes in the 2025 calendar year, alongside more than 3 million tons of oilseeds, adding that wheat supplies “’increased by 30% compared to the same period last year, to 14 million tons,’” reported RT. According to data published on May 20, Egypt increased purchases by 19%, while exports to Sudan jumped by 78%, and supplies to Kenya rose sixfold.

Egypt’s Supply and Internal Trade Minister, Sherif Farouk, participated in the forum, noted the Egyptian government website, and was expected to hold many discussions on the sidelines of the event, “with ministers, officials and representatives of international institutions and companies to discuss expanding cooperation in grain trade, securing supply chains and exchanging expertise in support of Egypt’s food security efforts and strategic commodity needs.”
