Forget Operation Epic Fury: It'll Soon Be Operation Sledgehammer

The Pentagon is reported to be considering renaming its war on Iran “Operation Sledgehammer.” In reality, it’s a continuation of the word game the administration is playing to avoid the 60-day limit in the War Powers Act. By changing the name, it becomes a different war, see?

“Any new military combat operations against Iran would be conducted under a new name and operation,” an unnamed White House official told NBC News yesterday. From the administration’s point of view this would effectively restart the clock with Congress. Operation Sledgehammer is not the only name under consideration, according to unnamed U.S. officials.
