Brig. Gen. (ret.) Erich Vad, former security advisor to Angela Merkel, has given several interviews to non-mainstream media, including to journalist Alexander Teske, complaining that in the German political debate only war is being discussed, and no diplomatic solution. Insisting that the war in Ukraine ends when Putin pulls out is “infantile,” he said. Looked at from the standpoint of a military strategist, and not as a pacifist, war is no proposition for Germany. We are approaching the day when Russia could lose its patience and retaliate against Germany, which has no defense against that.
Gen. Vad described the military situation as hopeless for Ukraine, and laughed about so-called war experts who say the opposite and improvise reasons. His assessment is similar to many non-mainstream observers, with the important difference that there is hardly a more qualified expert than the general to talk about such matters.
“The war is now entering its fifth year, and the military situation—I mean, in the Donbas—is exceptionally bad for Ukraine,” he said, “completely different from how it’s being portrayed in the media right now. Above all, they have major problems with manpower, that is, recruiting personnel.
