In spite of the growing tension between the U.S. and China because of Mike Pompeo’s continual provocations, the two sides will meet on Aug. 15, in a pre-planned six-month review from the signing of the deal, to discuss the continuation of the trade negotiations. In spite of the fact that China has not been able to comply completely with the original Phase 1 agreements because of the disruption of the COVID pandemic, the two sides will continue discussion and follow-up. China is still far behind the pace of purchases of farm products, the purchases this year lying far below last year’s, and they have only succeeded in purchasing 5% of the energy products that the Phase 1 agreement called for within this year.
