The U.S. Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard released a new tri-service maritime strategy yesterday that provides further evidence as to how the poison of the National Security Strategy and National Defense Strategy documents labeling Russia and China as “strategic rivals” that must be countered by U.S. military power has penetrated U.S. strategic thinking. “Our integrated Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard must maintain clear-eyed resolve to compete with, deter, and, if necessary, defeat our adversaries while we accelerate development of a modernized, integrated all-domain naval force for the future,” the foreword to the document, signed by all three service chiefs, declares at the outset, reports Navy News.
The document, entitled “Advantage at Sea,” aims at Russia and China for their alleged intent to dominate international waters and desire to “remake” the international system in their favor. “China’s and Russia’s revisionist approaches in the maritime environment threaten U.S. interests, undermine alliances and partnerships, and degrade the free and open international order,” the document declares. “Moreover, China’s and Russia’s aggressive naval growth and modernization are eroding U.S. military advantages.”
