The state legislature of Montana last week passed Senate Joint Resolution 3 by Sen. Terry Gauthier, R-Helena, for an 18-month study of a plan to replace aging coal fired power plants at the Colstrip Power Plant with small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs). The new SMR would be connected to the old plant’s electrical switchyard, grid connection, etc. Oregon-based NuScale Power, producer of SMRs, testified in support.
