Today is Russia’s Navy Day, the 325th anniversary of the founding of the Russian Navy. A parade on the Neva River in St. Petersburg was personally reviewed by President Vladimir Putin from a motorized yacht, together with Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Navy Commander Adm. Nikolai Yevmenov.
Putin addressed the event: “Russia has taken a worthy place among the leading naval powers within the shortest time possible, passed a colossal way of its development from a modest small boat of Peter the Great to powerful going naval ships and nuclear-powered underwater missile-carrying cruisers, created effective long-and short-range naval aviation, reliable coastal defense systems and the latest hypersonic precision weapons unrivaled in the world, which we are improving constantly and successfully.”
The parade involved over 50 combat ships, vessels, submarines and windjammers and about 4,000 personnel. About 50 aircraft took part in the naval parade’s flyover. The parade is being held without spectators due to the tense epidemiological situation, TASS reported. Vessels from India, Iran and Pakistan also took part in the parade.
