Western media gave big play to Chinese President Xi Jinping telling the UN General Assembly that China will no longer build coal-fired powers abroad. This does not mean that China is shutting down plants at home however. As a matter of fact, both coal imports and domestic output increased this year. China’s raw coal output rose 0.8% year on year to 340 million tonnes last month, and China’s coal imports surged 35.8% year on year to 28.05 million tonnes in August, Xinhua reports.
