Edi Rama, Albania’s Prime Minister, warned on Sunday that the country is facing an extreme energy crisis. “The astonishing price increases of gas and carbon in all international markets, and the strong trend towards increased oil prices, accompanied by a general increase of prices of day-to-day consumption products, are standing today in front of all countries as shadows of an enemy army, over the horizon of the upcoming difficult winter for the world,” Rama declared. Two factors he mentioned are the shift to green energy and the shutting down of nuclear power plants in Germany. Most of the country’s power comes from hydro, but recently it has had to import expensive electricity, the price of which has increased by 500%.
