Russia and NATO Continue Military Exercises

Large amounts of military hardware continues to be in motion on both sides of the NATO-Russia divide. On the Russian side, the press office of the Northern Sea Fleet reported this morning that a group of the fleet’s combat ships and support vessels practiced anti-submarine warfare missions during drills in the Norwegian Sea. The Defense Ministry reported this morning that mobile command posts are now in the process of deploying into Belarus for the joint exercises that kick off on Feb. 2. In addition, air defense troops are providing defense against a hypothetical enemy’s air attack, the ministry said. Further to the south, the Black Sea Fleet announced that its ships had returned to their bases in Crimea and Novorossiysk after large-scale drills in the Black Sea.

On the NATO side, Exercise Dynamic Move, a mine countermeasures exercise, is underway out of the Belgian port of Ostend.
