Deaths attributed to COVID-19 and new official cases of COVID-19 increased by over 50% in the last week in the United States. The seven-day average for deaths increased from 334 on Jan. 3 to 556 on Jan. 9, a rise of 66.5%; while the same for new cases rose from 53,000 to 81,000, a rise of 52.8%.
