After a week of press rumors, the issue of who will be the next head of NATO was raised at the joint White House press conference of President Biden with visiting British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. Biden responded that a “consensus within NATO” must first be formed, but that otherwise “[the U.K.] has a candidate who’s a very qualified individual"—a clear reference to British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace, without mentioning him by name. Biden said to reporters in Washington. “We have a lot of discussion between us in NATO, to determine what the outcome of that will be.”
