With U.S. media, such as the Wall Street Journal and The Atlantic declaring, without offering evidence, that Iran was behind the Hamas attack into Israel, red flags should be raised over the explicit threat of activating the nuclear option against Iran made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in his Sept. 22 address to the UN General Assembly. There, Netanyahu, after repeating his usual protest over the international community’s “indifference” to Iranian “aggression,” speaking very deliberately and banging the podium for emphasis, stated:
“To stop Iran’s nuclear ambitions, this policy must change. Sanctions must be snapped back. And above all, [pause for effect], above all, Iran must face a credible nuclear threat. As long as I’m Prime Minister of Israel, I will do everything in my power to prevent Iran from getting nuclear weapons.”
The Prime Minister’s Office later “clarified” that his written text read “credible military threat,” not nuclear, and that the prime minister had “misread… The prime minister stands by the original text of the speech,” the PMO claimed. However, the video itself shows no stumbling by Prime Minister Netanyahu, and the word “nuclear” fits his cadence. Watch for yourself his delivery during minutes 18:19 to 18:42.
The only official protest found, so far, against this clear expression of reckless intent delivered to the nations of the world, was the formal complaint submitted to the United Nations Security Council by the target nation, Iran.
