Secretary of State Tony Blinken, after meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah over the weekend, flew on to Baghdad where he got an earful from Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa al-Sudani. According to Shafaq News, Al Sudani reiterated Iraq’s “steadfast and principled stance against the Zionist aggression on Gaza” and called for an “urgent ceasefire and reopening of border crossings” to prevent the exacerbation of Gaza’s “humanitarian crisis, which has tragically affected civilians, including women and children.” He urged the “international community” to take action against the “daily massacres” committed by Israeli forces, the targeting of hospitals and shelters, and the “ethnic cleansing” of the Palestinian people.
Al Sudani then went to Tehran on the morning of Nov. 6, where he met with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, who said that Tehran and Baghdad believe that the bombing of the people of Gaza should be stopped as soon as possible and a ceasefire should be implemented, reported Mehr News. Raisi added that U.S. weapons and intelligence aid to Israel has encouraged the Netanyahu regime to kill the people of Gaza. Americans’ claim about helping a ceasefire in Gaza is completely false and has no compatibility with their actions, and have only paved the way for the killing of Palestinians, he said.
