Biggest Show of Force Among Israelis Demanding Netanyahu’s Resignation

Major demonstrations in Tel Aviv this weekend belied [Benjamin Netanyahu’s claims]( today on “Face the Nation” that he and his policy had the support of the Israeli people. Demonstrators took over the streets of Tel Aviv, in the biggest demonstration since the war began.

Demonstrators were calling for Netanyahu to resign, for various reasons. Police, on foot and on horseback, tried to disperse the crowd, but having no success, they went after them with water cannons. While that helped disrupt the protests, many demonstrators simply sat down and had to be carried off by the police.

Across the street, families of the hostages demanded that Netanyahu negotiate with Hamas in order to release their loved ones. It appeared that the police were not willing to touch that demonstration, as it would probably have set off a firestorm.
