Freedom Flotilla Sabotaged, for Now, by Israeli-Guinea Bissau Ploy

April 27, 2024 (EIRNS)—Dmitri Lascaris has issued another video from the Freedom Flotilla team in Türkiye, with statements from the group’s leaders Ann Wright and Ismail Songur (a Turk), explaining that the trip has been sabotaged by an Israeli-linked ploy by Guinea Bissau. Two of the three ships in the Flotilla are flagged by Guinea Bissau, and somehow (almost certainly Israeli and U.S. pressure) they were convinced to send “inspectors” to Türkiye to inspect the ships, hoping to find a reason to prevent them from sailing. They did the inspections, found nothing to complain about, but then demanded a signature on a statement that swore the ships would not dock in Gaza (!) and demanded a signed approval from whatever “country” they did plan to visit. Of course, Gaza and Palestine are not officially recognized “countries,” so that served as a further excuse to prevent the sailing.

Col. Ann Wright called on the participants to join in a demonstration the following day (Saturday, April 27), to make sure the Turks know what was going on, but called on people to then go home. They intend to continue working to find a solution, in which case they will call the participants to come back.
