‘On Strike’ Picket Lines at UCLA and UC-Davis

On May 28 academic workers of UAW local 4811 walked off the job at UCLA and UC-Davis to man picket lines, according to the Los Angeles Times. This is part of the planned “rolling strikes” that started on May 20 at the campus of UC-Santa Cruz to demand attention to the violence allowed against peaceful student protesters, especially on April 30 at Royce Hall at UCLA. Other demands addressed the limits to freedom of speech, the unsafe working conditions, the illegal arrest of union members who were defending the student protesters, the violation of union contracts, amnesty for all students and staff, divestment from Israel, and many other issues.
