Vincenzo De Luca, a “dissident” member of Italy’s Democratic Party and the president of the Campania region, on Sept. 18, raised some pointed questions: “Was it really necessary, after the fall of the Berlin Wall, to expand NATO along Russia’s entire Western border? Did you really think there wouldn’t be a reaction?”
He went on: “When Soviet missiles appeared in Cuba, the United States put in place a naval blockade, and rightly so. Instead of keeping Russia tied to Europe, we have given away the largest reservoir of raw materials to China. How can you be so stupid? You cannot wage an open war without saying what the objective is. What is the goal? The victory over Russia? Then you are crazy because you are leading us to nuclear war! Is it clear or not?
