The Indian armed forces carried out airstrike attacks in the early morning of May 7, India time, on nine targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, which it said were part of terrorist infrastructure. This includes Muridke and Bahawalpur, which India stated are the strongholds of the terror-groups Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, respectively, reports NDTV, in an article, “Operation Sindoor Live Updates: India Strikes 9 Terror Bases in Pakistan in Historic Tri-Services Operations.” India says the missile strikes are in retaliation for a terrorist attack that killed 26 Indian tourists April 22 in Jammu and Kashmir.

In a post on X, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has decried the strike as an “act of war.” “Pakistan has every right to give a befitting reply to this act of war imposed by India and a befitting reply is being given,” he said. “The entire nation is with the Pakistani forces and the morale and spirit of the entire Pakistani nation is high. … They will never allow the enemy to succeed in their nefarious objectives.”

The spokesman for Pakistan’s armed forces says the military will respond to India’s strikes “at a time and place of its own choosing.” “It will not go unanswered,” the spokesman said in the statement, carried by the Associated Press of Pakistan. Pakistan claims it shot down two Indian military jets.
