Germany is faced with another wave of “Dunkelflaute,” referring to the “Dark Lull,” when there is no wind and no Sun, combined with an increased energy demand because of the cold. The lower wind power output to below 3 GW today, requiring major of coal and gas plants, supported by increased import of nuclear-produced electricity from France and by use of strategic reserves. Result: skyrocketing prices for energy—€606.9 per MWh on Dec. 11—and a dangerous drop in the reserves.

Nota bene: Installed capacity of wind power is over 66 GW in Germany. Installed solar capacity is even higher: 81.7 GW. However, at 7 p.m., when energy demand peaks, over 65 GW solar power will supply zero energy, and wind less than 3 GW. In order to accomplish this disaster, Germany spent €700 billion in the last 20 years.
