Donald Trump Seeks to Visit With Xi Jinping in China

A January Wall Street Journal 18 article, “Trump Told Advisers He Wants to Visit China as President,” reports, that “U.S. President Donald Trump has told his advisers he wants to travel to China after he takes office.”

Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping spoke by phone on January 17 for the first time since Trump’s November election. After the call, Trump wrote on the Truth Social media platform, “I just spoke to Chairman Xi Jinping of China. The call was a very good one for both China and the U.S.A.,” Trump wrote. “We discussed balancing Trade, Fentanyl, TikTok, and many other subjects. President Xi and I will do everything possible to make the World more peaceful and safe!” He added, “It is my expectation that we will solve many problems together, and starting immediately.”

China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the two leaders agreed to “set up a channel of strategic communication to keep in regular touch on major issues of shared interest.” In their January 17 call, “Xi also reminded Trump to handle the issue of Taiwan ‘with prudence,’ calling it a concern of national sovereignty and territorial integrity,” [Chinese] state media said,” reported the Wall Street Journal.
