Dueling Demonstrations in Israel for and against a Ceasefire Deal in Gaza

Last night, half a day before the ceasefire agreement was announced in Doha, dueling protests took place in Israel for and against it. Thousands of Israelis gathered Jan. 14, Tuesday night in Tel Aviv’s “hostages square” in anticipation of the ceasefire deal, with some singing and playing music on a stage, while hundreds of Israeli hardliners marched in Jerusalem to voice their opposition to the deal, reported Al Jazeera. “This is not about politics or strategy. It’s about humanity and the shared belief that no one should be left behind in darkness,” said one of the hostages, Moran Stella Yanai, earlier released from Gaza.

In Jerusalem, demonstrators opposed to the deal chanted, “You don’t make a deal with the devil,” meaning Hamas.
