The engines of agriculture are at a standstill—not out of exhaustion, but out of protest. On Monday, January 6, dozens of tractors rolled toward Paris and Lyon, in a so-called “snail operation.” The protest is against strict EU standards, the lack of import regulations, and the impending signing of a free trade agreement between the EU and the Mercosur countries, otherwise known as the Southern Common Market.
