Seeking Confirmation, Tulsi Gabbard Relents on Section 702

In 2020, Tulsi Gabbard co-sponsored, along with Thomas Massie, a resolution to repeal the Patriot Act. One of the practices to which she objected was section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, which allows for warrantless surveillance of foreigners outside the U.S. whose communications are likely to be of intelligence use. This would include conversations between such people and Americans, or people within the U.S., whose communications could otherwise be accessed only by obtaining a warrant.

Gabbard, now in discussion with senators in preparation for her confirmation hearings, has told a Washington publication that she no longer opposes section 702.
