According to a New York Times report, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov admitted that the U.S. and Russia have commenced contact over solving the Ukraine conflict. Peskov told reporters on Feb. 5: “There are indeed contacts between individual departments, and they have intensified recently, but I cannot tell you any other details.” TASS confirmed today that he had admitted talks were going on, but today asserted, “I have nothing to add to what I mentioned yesterday,”

Meanwhile, Russia’s Ambassador to London Andrey Kelin said in an interview with the British television channel ITV, that there are “very preliminary contacts with the Americans,” reported TASS. However, he noted, “We have not heard about any serious proposals on the table.” Russia is “prepared for a very serious conversation on that side,” Kelin added.

The New York Times reminds readers that President Trump said, during his press conference with Netanyahu on Feb. 4, that his administration was already having “very constructive talks on Ukraine.” He added, “And we are talking to the Russians. We are talking to the Ukrainians.”
