You’ve heard of Elon Musk and his DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency); but Russell Vought? Financial Times reported Feb.10: “While Elon Musk, the billionaire investor, and his team at the so-called `Department of Government Efficiency,’ are on the front lines of Trump’s push to slash and shake up federal agencies, Vought is arguably the commander of the operation and increasingly in the spotlight.”

Vought is the newly appointed head of Trump’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB), a post he also held in the last two years of Trump’s first presidency. He is reported to be the co-author of the Heritage Foundation’s “Project 2025” document, drafted to guide the incoming Trump administration. Vought is a self-described “Christian nationalist,” a product of Wheaton College of Illinois, who was a lobbyist for Heritage Action, and founded the Center for Renewing America. Vought cut his teeth as a Legislative Assistant for Sen. Phil Gramm, best known for the draconian budget cutting of his 1985 Gramm-Rudman Act.
