March 21, 2025 (EIRNS)—Decisions on the EU “Rearm Europe” scheme have been postponed to June, due to disagreements in the mental asylum called the European Union. At the EU Council meeting, Italy, France, Spain, Belgium, and Sweden turned down the EU Commission proposal to allow more deficit to finance rearmament. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said that funds based on national deficits “remain virtual resources” and that the deadline of April for accessing that “safeguard” clause “is too narrow for Italy.” Meloni and others (reportedly, the European People’s Party, EPP, group in the EU Parliament) are favorable to issue EU common debt.
