March 8, 2025 (EIRNS)—Friday morning, March 7, U.S. President Donald Trump on his Truth Social account raised the possibility of imposing more sanctions on Russia. “Based on the fact that Russia is absolutely ‘pounding’ Ukraine on the battlefield right now, I am strongly considering large scale Banking Sanctions, Sanctions, and Tariffs on Russia until a Cease Fire and FINAL SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT ON PEACE IS REACHED. To Russia and Ukraine, get to the table right now, before it is too late. Thank you!!!”

Later in the day, speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said he believed that President Putin’s actions were understandable. “I think he’s hitting them [Ukraine] harder than he’s been hitting them,” Trump said. “And I think probably anyone in that position would be doing that right now.”
