Israel's Foreign Minister's 'Private Visit' to U.K. Exposed

Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar sneaked into London this week for meetings with British Foreign Secretary David Lammy, according to Declassified UK, citing a report in Ynet. The visit was acknowledged only after a leak to the press of Sa’ar’s travel plans, which were kept secret, due to the fear that an arrest warrant might be issued against him. Following the leak, the Israeli Foreign Ministry reported that Sa’ar and Lammy had discussed “the full range of regional issues on the agenda, foremost among them the Iranian nuclear issue.” They also spoke about “the negotiations for the release of the hostages in Gaza” and “advancing bilateral relations between the two countries.” Declassified UK added that not included in the talking points were Israel’s violations of international humanitarian law in Gaza, nor were the detention of two British MPs in Tel Aviv last week.

The U.K. human rights group Global Legal Action Network (GLAN), upon learning of his visit, initiated an action to get an arrest warrant issued against Sa’ar, charging him with complicity in the siege of Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza in December 2024. GLAN cited as further evidence of complicity of Sa’ar in genocide his comment in October 2023 that “Gaza must be smaller after the war. … it’s the price of loss the Arabs understand.”
