TASS reports two statements today—one released by Ukrainian acting president Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the other released by Russian President Vladimir Putin’s press spokesman Dmitry Peskov, after the Putin-Trump May 19 phone conversation. They partially indicate some of the outlook of Ukraine and of Russia.
With respect to Ukraine, a May 20 TASS article, “Zelenskyy Confirms Settlement Memorandum May Be Signed,” reports,
“Ukraine may sign a memorandum on settling the conflict with Russia and is waiting for Moscow’s proposals to present its vision, Vladimir [Volodymyr] Zelenskyy said following a phone talk with U.S. President Donald Trump.
“‘A relevant memorandum could be signed bilaterally. It could then lead to a roadmap to end the war, to a treaty supported by both countries, involving a ceasefire,’ he said at a briefing broadcast by his office.
“Zelenskyy noted that the content of the document remains unclear. ‘If the Russian side proposes some kind of memorandum, we, having received it or related proposals, will be able to outline our vision,’ he stated.
“According to Zelenskyy, the U.S. President indicated that the document would include broader plans for a settlement beyond just a ceasefire.”
