Russian Ambassador to the Vatican Ivan Soltanovsky expressed confidence that the new Pope Leo XIV could play an important role in bringing peace to the Ukraine conflict. He made this remark after his first meeting with Pope Leo on May 16. “The potential of the Russian-Vatican dialogue remains solid, the main thing is the mutual desire to work on converting potential energy into kinetic energy,” Izvestia reported.
He believes that the Pope plans to maintain the course aimed at promoting peace, dialogue, church freedom, and family values. Soltanovsky also stated that the Russian Federation expects to continue cooperation with the Vatican, including with regard to the conflict in Ukraine.
