TASS covered the demonstration of the Immortal Regiment in Washington, D.C. on May 3. The wire noted that this is the first time the demonstration has taken place since 2019, and the participation of members of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and “other countries” whose relatives had served in World War II. The Russian Embassy expressed appreciation for the U.S. authorities to allow the march.
“We support the holding of the Immortal Regiment events in Washington and other American cities. It is good that the authorities have given permission for both the memorial event in honor of the meeting [by Soviet and American armies] on the Elbe at Arlington Cemetery, with the participation of officials, including representatives of the diplomatic corps and the State Department, and for today’s march, which is being held at the initiative of compatriots living in the United States,” said Alexander Kim, Minister-Counselor of the Russian Embassy in the United States.
