The Third International Anti-Fascist Congress “For the Unity of All Anti-Fascist Forces, for the Complete Victory over Nazism!” convened yesterday at Moscow’s Patriot Center, attended by representatives of 43 states, politicians, statesmen, representatives of science and education, cultural workers, veterans of the Great Patriotic War, other wars and local conflicts, as well as cadets of more than 40 higher educational organizations of the ministries of defense of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus, according to the Russian Defense Ministry. The event aims to consolidate wholesome international forces on the platform of countering the spread of fascism and Nazism and preserve the historical truth about the Second World War.
In opening the plenary session, Russian Deputy Defense Minister General of the Army Viktor Goremykin noted that fighting neo-Nazism is the priority of the Russian state policy. He stressed that countries remember well the events of almost a century ago, when radical ideas took hold of millions of minds in Germany, Italy, Hungary, Finland, Spain, Portugal and Croatia, while fascist dictatorships combined state resources, monopolies, armies, and propaganda to maintain power. But they ignored the law and dealt with dissenters on their way to global domination.
“Today we see how the truth about those events is being corrupted. There has never been a war in the history of mankind that has been subject to such large-scale falsification. The West is imposing its postulates on the international community,” Goremykin said. He stressed that the Western claims declaring the U.S.S.R. and the Third Reich were equally responsible for starting the Second World War, deliberately downplays the role of the Red Army in defeating Nazi Germany and militarist Japan, creates a myth of Soviet occupation of Eastern European countries, and actively manufactures other lies for its own benefit. This is done in order to cast a shadow over Russia today.
