Responding to a question at the weekly press briefing today, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova reiterated Russia’s grave concerns about U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal to build a “Golden Dome” shield over the United States. She referred to the Russia-China statement on global strategic stability. She stated: “It is noted that this program, which involves the creation of an unlimited, global and multi-sphere missile defense system of protection, including from strategic missiles of Russia and China, is deeply destabilizing. The conceptual basis of this draft testifies to Washington’s complete and final refusal to recognize the inextricable link between strategic offensive and strategic defensive arms, which is one of the pillars of maintaining strategic stability. …
“The situation is further aggravated by the fact that the Golden Dome directly provides for a significant strengthening of the arsenal of means for conducting combat operations in space, including the deployment of interception systems in orbit. Such actions are aimed at ensuring the possibility of the use of force or the threat of force in, from or against space, which makes it an environment for the deployment of weapons and an arena of armed confrontation.”
