In contrast to the sane, more thoughtful voices of Brazilian President Lula de Silva and other Ibero-American heads of state, who are deeply concerned that the Israeli-U.S. war on Iran will inevitably lead to world war, Argentina’s crazed President Javier Milei has offered his “unconditional support” to both Israel and the U.S. for their attacks on Iran, Página 12 reported today. Just days before Israel’s June 13 attack on Iran, Milei spent June 9-11 in Israel, where he met with Netanyahu, addressed the Knesset, and gushed about Argentina’s “shared values” with Israel.
During a June 19 interview on LN+ radio, Milei proclaimed that “Iran is Argentina’s enemy,” and warned that were Iran to obtain nuclear weapons this would be a “problem” for the world. He then quoted German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s statement on June 17, that Israel is “doing the dirty work that others don’t want to do.”
Since Israel began its June 13 attack on Iran, Milei has been resending on X the speeches of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu. Now, his June 19 remarks have raised the question of whether his government is offering military aid to Israel, which he has often suggested he’d do. Milei told LN+ that Israel “already saved us from Iraq in 1981; Israel saved us from Syria in 2007; and now it’s doing it again. Israel, let’s say, is saving Western culture, and doing the dirty work that others don’t want to do.”
Congressman Eduardo Tonioli from the UxP Peronist bloc warned that Milei’s statements are a cause for serious concern, as any “belligerent” hearing him could see this “as a declaration of war.” That’s why, he said, he has introduced a resolution to impeach Milei on grounds that he is “involving Argentina in an international war,” bypassing Congress altogether, “which is a violation of all our regulations.” Only Congress has the power to declare war, not the Executive branch, he said.
