Poland’s newly-elected President Karol Nawrocki announced that he is against Ukraine joining the European Union. As such, Nawrocki, still an opponent of Russia, distinguishes himself from the permanent war gang in London, Paris and Berlin in not being willing to undermine the physical economy of his country for the sake of the “Coalition of the Willing.”
Speaking yesterday to Hungary’s news outlet, Mandiner, Nawrocki stated: “’At the moment, I am against Ukraine’s entry into the European Union. On the one hand, we must support Ukraine in its conflict with the Russian Federation, but Ukraine must understand that other countries, including Poland, Hungary, and other European countries, also have their own interests.‘”
On June 6, EU tariffs on Ukraine’s agricultural exports were resumed. Farmers in both Poland and Hungary have pushed for this, as they have struggled for 2-3 years with cheap Ukrainian produce being dumped on to the market. Nawrocki said: “During the campaign, I did not agree, and as President, I will not agree, to unfair competition with Ukraine for Polish agriculture or the logistics sector.... I see Ukraine as a country that, although it is very bravely defending itself against the Russian Federation, must also respect the interests of other countries that otherwise support Ukraine.”
