Dmitry Peskov, Russian President Putin’s press representative, said after Russian and Ukrainian delegations held negotiations June 2 in Istanbul, Türkiye, “Of course, it would be wrong to expect immediate solutions and breakthroughs. But the work is proceeding, and certain agreements were reached in Istanbul. They are important, as ultimately, they concern people’s lives. These agreements will be implemented, and the work will continue,” he added, according to Türkiye’s Anadolu Agency news.
The meeting reportedly lasted one hour. However, prior to that, there was a meeting between Vladimir Medinsky, Russia’s lead negotiator, and Rustem Umerov, Ukraine’s Defense Minister and lead negotiator. “There was a meeting. It played an important role in the preparation of the general session,” Medinsky told reporters. A source who requested anonymity told RT on June 2 that the private conversation lasted around two-and-a-half hours.
