Corporate bankruptcies in Germany were at their highest level in a decade in the first half of 2025, Creditreform reported on June 26. “Despite all economic policy hopes and timid signals of confidence from the economy, the latter continues to be in a recession. In particular, the loss of competence and know-how is feared,” the report says.

Some 11,900 corporate insolvencies were registered in the first six months of this year, 9.4% more than in the same period last year. “Germany remains in a deep economic and structural crisis,” Creditreform chief economist Patrik-Ludwig Hantzsch told Reuters.
