The Russian Defense Ministry, at about 5:30 a.m. EDT on June 6, posted the following statement on its English language Telegram channel:
“Last night, in response to the terrorist actions of the Kiev regime, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation carried out a massive strike with long-range air, sea, and ground-based high-precision weapons, as well as with strike UAVs against design bureaus, enterprises producing and repairing weapons and military hardware of Ukraine, attack drone assembly workshops, flight training centres, and AFU weapons and military hardware depots. The aim of the strike has been achieved. All the assigned targets have been engaged.”
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov was asked during a press briefing this morning if these strikes were the retaliation that President Vladimir Putin had warned U.S. President Donald Trump about some days ago would be coming. “Everything that is happening within the framework of the special military operation, everything that is being done by our military, is a response to the actions of the Kiev regime, which has now acquired all the characteristics of a terrorist regime,” Peskov replied, reported TASS, perhaps implying that more is yet to come.
The Ukrainian military claimed that Russian forces had launched 8 Iskander ballistic missiles, 36 Kh-101 cruise missiles launched from Tu-95MS and Tu-160 bombers, and 407 drones during the attack, reported Ukrainska Pravda. Of the total, the Ukrainians claimed to have shot down 406 drones and missiles.
