Starmer Proclaims ‘Concerns’ about Iran's Nuclear Program in Phone Calls

U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer spoke by phone yesterday to U.S. President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, all about the deescalating the conflict between between Israel and Iran. The three readouts from No. 10 Downing Street are not very informative, but what is reported shows Starmer is supporting Israel. In his conversation with Trump, Starmer “reiterated the U.K.’s grave concerns about Iran’s nuclear programs.”

Starmer told Netanyahu that “Israel has a right to self-defense and set out the U.K.’s grave concerns about Iran’s nuclear program,” but “He reiterated the need for de-escalation and a diplomatic resolution, in the interests of stability in the region.”

Starmer, Macron and Merz “discussed the long-held grave concerns about Iran’s nuclear program, and called on all sides to refrain from further escalation that could further destabilise the region,” according to the third readout. “The leaders reaffirmed Israel’s right to self-defence, and agreed that a diplomatic resolution, rather than military action, was the way forward.”
