After the Russian “massive strikes” on Ukraine overnight on June 5-6, President Donald Trump went public on his frustrations with acting Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He told journalists yesterday that he “didn’t like” the escalation when asked whether Kiev’s attack on a key component of Russia’s nuclear triad changed his view of “what’s at stake” and what “cards” Volodymyr Zelenskyy holds.
“Well, they gave Putin a reason to go in and bomb the hell out of them last night,” Trump stated. “That’s something I didn’t like about it. When I saw it, I said: ‘Here we go … now it’s going to be a strike.’”
Trump’s comments followed a report in The Atlantic on June 5 that he had already privately “expressed frustration that the strike could escalate the conflict.” This is reported by The Atlantic, citing three administration officials and an outside adviser to the White House, all unnamed.
